Nokia signs up with WWF in new green move

01 February 2008

Nokia wants to halve the standby energy used by its handset chargers, use green electricity to run 50% of its facilities by 2010 (it currently uses it for 25%), and reduce the overall energy needs of its sites by 6% by 2012.

"This is not about grand gestures but everyday things that when multiplied by the scale of our operations, or the 900 million people using Nokia devices globally, can have a major impact," says Kirsi Sormunen, VP of environmental affairs at Nokia. "It also makes good business sense, helping us find new ways to be more efficient and innovative."
