Brewer to create energy saving pubs

30 April 2008

Karl Czinege, commercial manager at Marston’s Pub Company, said there will be a roll-out of energy saving and environmentally friendly initiatives with the next cycle of the capital expenditure programme.

He said activity would be “closely linked” to work carried out by Marston’s Inns & Taverns.

“This will include the installation of energy saving lighting through PIR detectors in the toilets and cellars, energy saving lamps and light fittings, and LED interior & exterior light fittings,” he said.

“Our retailers can also take advantage of the reduced cost lighting by purchasing low energy replacement bulbs and LED light fittings via our extranet site, My Marston’s Online.

Czinege said Marston’s will ensure that refurbished premises are installed with double the statutory amount of loft and cavity installation as required by the Building Regulations Authority, and water saving measures such as dual flush toilets and air inducing taps.

“There are also many green initiatives which we will be implementing in conjunction with our retailers, such flushing out heating systems to make them operate more efficiently,” he added.

“We also have facilitated a system for our retailers to have their waste cooking oil collected, enabling it to be recycled and turned into biodiesel. New oil can also be purchased at a reduced cost to the business.”

Marston's also announced it had been admitted to the FTSE4Good Index, a list of FTSE companies that meet a high standard in corporate responsibility.
